Watch_Dogs, a debut open-world action title from Ubisoft Montreal, places players into a hyper-connected Chicago. Assuming the role of hacker Aiden Pearce, players manipulate the city's Central Operating System (ctOS) via a smartphone. This system grants real-time control over urban infrastructure, allowing players to trap enemies in traffic pile-ups, stop trains, or raise drawbridges. Combat integrates aggressive baton strikes with gunplay using over 30 traditional weapons, often combined with environmental hacking for tactical advantage. Players navigate the expansive city using a roster of over 65 vehicles.

The game's mechanics extend beyond hacking to dynamic navigation, enabling players to cut through buildings or scale rooftops for strategic movement across the urban landscape. Ubisoft Montreal collaborated with Ubisoft Reflections, known for the Driver series, to implement the driving mechanics, which feature advanced physics and handling. Watch_Dogs operates on the proprietary Disrupt engine, engineered for advanced processing and graphics.
