Demonschool is a new-style tactics RPG where motion equals action. Players control Faye and her companions, navigating a mysterious island between human and demon worlds. The game's core loop involves planning movements and executing them simultaneously, with the ability to rewind actions during a dedicated planning phase. Combos and environmental interactions are central to exploiting enemy weaknesses, with units capable of striking enemies, moving objects, or dashing. Buffing allies and debuffing enemies contribute to damage output, while combos unleash unique elemental attacks.
The narrative adopts a light horror tone, presented through large avatars and supplemented by numerous side quests. Players manage a university schedule throughout a semester, using it to level characters, build skills, and develop relationships with 15 potential companions. The island's mysteries unfold across days and weeks, influenced by the player's strategic planning of their team's schedule and social interactions.
