Tallowmere is a 2D action roguelike-inspired platformer developed and published by Chris McFarland. The game challenges players to delve into procedurally generated dungeons, with each room increasing in size, difficulty, and reward. Gameplay centers on a tactical loop of raising a shield to block attacks and striking enemies during opportune moments, while also employing movement and shields to avoid traps. Players collect weapons, outfits, and shields of varying rarities, and can turn in souls from defeated enemies to permanently enhance base stats and passive abilities. The core objective is survival and achieving high scores in an infinitely scaling dungeon, with local and global leaderboards tracking progress. The game features persistent bloodsplats and gibs, alongside tactical shield blocking mechanics. Players can equip a variety of weapons, from axes and clubs to teleporting katanas and rocket launchers, with item rarities spanning seven tiers. Enemies include diverse types with elite variations, and deadly traps like spinning pinwheels and acid clouds populate the rooms. Tallowmere supports single-player and local co-op for up to four players on a shared screen. A soft save system allows players to quit and resume, and difficulty settings and challenge modes cater to different player thresholds.
