The game features four distinct battle modes. The classic Standard mode, team-based Grand Prix, and the 64-player Battle 64 return. A new Castle mode introduces asymmetrical combat, pitting an Attack side against a defending Castle side in a contest for treasure. Players can create and share custom Castle mode stages using the integrated Stage Editor. Online play includes Grade Matches for skill-based competition and Room Matches for custom rulesets with friends. A single-player Story Mode also provides an enhanced narrative experience.
