Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the latest kart racing entry in the Sonic Racing series, focusing on high-speed, multi-dimensional competition. Players race across diverse environments encompassing land, sea, air, and space, with courses dynamically changing mid-event. Travel Rings transport racers into new dimensions, altering track layouts and presenting unique challenges on the second lap before returning to a modified version of the initial course for the final stretch. This structure ensures no two races unfold identically, demanding constant adaptation from players speeding to victory solo or in teams across various offline and online modes.
The game offers extensive vehicle and character customization alongside a robust suite of competitive modes. Over 45 original vehicles and more than 70 gadgets allow players to fine-tune aspects like movement boost efficiency, item chance, and recovery time, defining individual playstyles across five classes: Speed, Acceleration, Handling, Power, and Boost. Vehicle performance is further adjusted by combining front, rear, and tire parts, complemented by custom paint jobs and decals. The roster features 23 iconic Sonic characters, the largest in the series, including Team Sonic, the Babylon Rogues, Team Chaotix, and the Deadly Six. A Rival system randomly assigns an opponent each race, who is faster and smarter, offering bonus rewards and unique dialogue upon defeat. Game modes include the classic Grand Prix, team-based Race Park with unique rule sets, Time Trials with global leaderboards, and World Match, an online 12-player ladder culminating in Legend Rank. Post-launch support includes free updates adding characters from the broader SEGA universe, alongside limited-time Festivals and high-skill Legend Competitions for top-ranked players.
