Session: Skate Sim emerges as a debut IP in the realistic skateboarding simulation genre, offering an experience inspired by 1990s street skating culture. Players control each foot independently with the dual stick system, requiring learned weight transfer and precise board manipulation to execute tricks. Physics prioritize realism, smoothness, and immersion, creating an initial challenge that rewards mastery with the thrill of performing maneuvers like a kickflip. This simulation forgoes a traditional scoring system, instead focusing on player creativity, imagination, and the authentic expression of style within iconic skate spots.

The game provides access to real-life locations such as Black Hubbas and Brooklyn Banks in New York City, alongside Philadelphia's FDR Park. An integrated video editor allows players to document their runs using 1990s filters, fisheye lenses, and adjustable camera views, transitioning from skater to filmmaker to create and share clips. Extensive customization options allow players to personalize their skater with nearly 200 items from real-world brands and modify their skateboard with over 250 parts, where component choices for trucks or wheels directly impact skating style. A comprehensive tutorial system and four distinct difficulty levels facilitate player entry and progression.
