Kill things. Again. Now with fancier gore.
Quake II, developed by id Software, functions as a standalone military sci-fi first-person shooter within the Quake franchise, establishing a new narrative and setting. Players assume the role of humanity's last hope, infiltrating the Strogg homeworld after a failed planetary assault to dismantle their war machine. Combat demands aggressive engagement across fortified military installations, industrial landscapes, and alien environments, navigating treacherous canyons and spacecraft to confront a hostile alien race.
This enhanced version of the critically acclaimed 1997 title incorporates the original mission packs, "The Reckoning" and "Ground Zero," alongside an all-new expansion, "Call of the Machine," offering 28 additional campaign levels. It also includes Quake II 64, with its 19 campaign levels and distinct soundtrack. The experience supports 4-player online or local split-screen co-op throughout the campaign and expansions, alongside 16-player online multiplayer or 4-player (up to 8-player on PC) local split-screen deathmatch, complete with bot support and crossplay functionality. Visuals are upgraded with up to 4K and widescreen resolution, enhanced models, improved enemy animations and gore, restored AI behaviors, dynamic lighting, and the original heavy rock soundtrack, modernizing its retro-style combat for contemporary platforms.
