Character progression is persistent, achieved through collected loot and a perk system that grants cybernetic enhancements. Players can choose from over a dozen weapons, discover new abilities, and experiment with a level editor. The title supports 2-4 player local co-op.Each run in Neon Chrome presents a new path through randomly generated futuristic settings and crafted challenges, culminating in a showdown with the Overseer. Players customize their approach with randomized "assets" before each run, which combine class, weapon, and unique abilities, layered on top of permanent stat upgrades. Destructible environments allow for strategic combat, with players shooting through walls and causing explosions. The game offers a variety of enemy types, from security personnel to military robots, alongside handcrafted combat and puzzle segments.
