Corpse Party is the original Windows edition of the cult classic horror adventure game, which began life as an independent RPG Maker title in 1996. The gameplay combines adventure-style exploration with RPG Maker elements, focusing on player choices and consequences. Players control nine main characters and several side characters who awaken separated and trapped in an alternate reality version of Heavenly Host Elementary, a tragedy-stricken institution. Vengeful spirits of elementary-aged children threaten their lives, and survival depends on uncovering the chilling details surrounding past murders.
The 2008 remake features a greatly refined gameplay experience and expanded story, including more characters, detailed interactions, and darker narrative elements. It presents over 5,000 lines of Japanese voice-acting and multiple endings, determined by player choices. The game is structured in five main chapters, with PC-exclusive bonus chapters and content that differ from its console counterparts. This title's original release sparked a significant horror boom in Japan, influencing numerous subsequent games.
