Combat utilizes Active Time Battle Version 2, where time progresses during encounters, demanding commands be entered when character gauges are full. Enemy positions shift dynamically, requiring strategic action. Players unleash special 'Tech' moves, including abilities and magic, which can be combined into over 50 distinct two- and three-character combo attacks.
This definitive version enhances the original experience with updated controls for gamepad and keyboard, alongside higher-resolution graphics that preserve the original atmosphere. Composer Yasunori Mitsuda supervised the update of all in-game sound and music. New content includes the 'Dimensional Vortex,' a mysterious, ever-changing dungeon existing outside of space and time, and the 'Lost Sanctum,' forgotten chambers accessed via enigmatic gates in prehistoric and medieval eras.
