BIOMUTANT arrives as a debut open-world, post-apocalyptic Kung-Fu fable RPG. Players master a martial arts styled combat system, blending melee strikes, ranged shooting, and mutant abilities. This system emphasizes freedom of movement and agility, with new Wung-Fu combat forms learned through progression and from various masters.

Genetic re-coding alters player appearance and attributes, with environmental bio-contamination and radioactivity further unlocking physical and psi-mutations such as Turtleform, Mucus Bubble, telekinesis, and levitation. Crafting offers extensive freedom for weapons, allowing players to mix parts for unique 1H or 2H melee weapons, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns, augmented with modifications like cork-screws or battery-powered chainsaw modules. Gear selection demands strategic choices, requiring specific attire such as gas-masks for Dead Zones or thermos-resistant clothes for cryonic areas. The vibrant open world invites exploration by foot, mech, jet-ski, air-balloon, or unique mounts, traversing wildlands, tunnels, bunkers, mountains, and archipelagos.
